WoWS Voice Mod Manager instruction manual
Target version of this manual: 2.8
This tool allows various operations related to voice mod of WoWS.
Features:
- List voice mods in voice mods folder of WoWS and detect duplicate names
- Rename voice mod setting name and folder name
- Delete voice mod
- Check for integrity of settings and voice files in voice mod
- Move voice mod from the mod folder of old version of WoWS to the folder of latest version
- Install new voice mod
The setting name is the name of the voice setting that appears in the pull-down menu of the in-game ESC key menu - Settings - Audio - Voiceover modifications. If there are multiple voice settings (voice mods) with duplicate names, they will not appear in the pull-down menu and cannot be used. The name of the folder where each voice mod is located is only a distinction of where the files are stored and has nothing to do with the issue. However, you can solve that duplication by using this tool to rename the settings.
How to use:
- Download and run "SetupVoiceModManager.exe" and follow the instructions to install the tool. This step does not need to be done every time.
- Launch the Voice Mod Manager with the shortcut or run "launch_voice_mod_manager.wsf" with the Explorer, for example.
- The tool window will open. First make sure that the correct WoWS installed folder (the folder containing the file "WorldOfWarships.exe") is set as the operation target folder. If not, select the correct one from the list of folders.
- If the correct folder is not in the list, follow the steps below:
(1) Enter the folder name (full path name) directly in the input field, or press the "Select" button and select the folder in the dialog that appears.
(2) Press the "Add" button to add the folder to the list of folders. As soon as it is added, it will be selected.
This list is saved in its own configuration file and will remain valid the next time the tool is launched. If you want to remove an unwanted item from the list, select it and press the "Delete" button.
- If the correct WoWS installed folder is selected, the latest version of WoWS will be detected automatically and a list of the names of the voice mod settings currently installed in the voice mod folder (WoWS_installed_folder\bin\XXXXXXXX\res_mods\banks\mods) will appear in the left part of the window. If any of the settings have duplicate names, "<Dup>" will appear at the beginning of those names. If there are no setting name, "<Unnamed>" will appear.
- If you want to change the setting name of a voice mod or its folder name, select the target from the list of voice setting names, then the setting name and folder name will appear in the input field to the right of it, so rewrite the name as desired and press the "Rename" button.
- If you want to undo the changes made while rewriting the setting name or folder name entry fields, press the "Cancel" button.
- If you want to delete a voice mod, select the target from the list of voice setting names and press the "Delete" button. The entire folder with the voice mod will be deleted. Deleted voice mods cannot be restored.
- If you want to check the consistency between the voice mod configuration file "mod.xml" and the voice file (file with .wem extension), select the target from the list of voice setting names and press the "Check" button. If there are any consistency problems, the details will be saved in the folder where the tool was installed under the file name "modxmlchk.log". At this time, you can choose whether or not to view the contents of this file. This file is replaced after each check.
- If mod folders for older versions of WoWS exist, it will appear in the pull-down list of folder names at the top of the frame on the right part of the window. The folder names are numbered, the larger the number the newer, but folders for the current, most recent version are excluded. If a voice mod exists in the folder selected in the list, a list of its setting names will appear in the column below it.
- If you want to use a voice mod for an older version in the latest version, select the name of the target you want to move from the list and press the "Move" button. Once you have moved a voice mod, you will not be able to move it back. If you want to move all voice mods, press the "Move all" button.
- If you want to install a new voice mod, follow the steps below:
(1) Enter the name (full path name) of the file (the "mod.xml" file in the voice mod files already extracted in the drive, or the unextracted zip file) directly in the input field at the bottom of the window, or press the "Select" button to select it in the dialog box that appears.
(2) Press the "Install" button to install the voice mod.
- If you want to update the information that appears on the screen, for example, when you perform an operation in Explorer while using this tool, press the "Refresh" button in the bottom left of the window.
- To exit the tool, press the close button at the top right of the window.
Notes:
- When the tool is launched while connected to the Internet, the automatic self-updating feature will work. When a newer version of the tool is released, it will automatically update to it.
- This tool automatically detects the version of WoWS even if it is updated, so it can continue to be used without problems as long as changes to the game's resource structure do not affect it.
- It is possible to launch this tool while the game is running, but be sure to restart the game after performing any operations with this tool. Do not use this tool while the game is being updated by WGC or game launcher.
- If the setting name does not appear in the list on the left part of the window, it is not recognized as a voice mod, and you should reinstall the mod correctly.
- The consistency check of "mod.xml" and .wem files determines whether all .wem files used in "mod.xml" exist and whether all .wem files that exist are used in "mod.xml". It is not whether that voice mod can be used in the game. This tool cannot determine if the content of that voice matches the timing of the voice playback in the game.
- Voice mods for older versions should continue to work as long as the game's supported voice file format and the "mod.xml" definition data structure have not changed. However, this tool cannot determine whether they can or cannot be used. Please check in the game's training mode at your own risk before using it in play.
- If you specify the "mod.xml" file when installing a new voice mod, all folders and files under the folder where the file is located are considered voice mod files and copied to the voice mod folder in WoWS. If "mod.xml" is in the root folder of the drive, it cannot be installed.
- When you press the "Select" button to display the file selection dialog when specifying a file name, it is titled "Select file to upload". However, the file is not actually uploaded anywhere on the network.
- If you specify a zip file when installing a new voice mod, it will attempt to install all voice mods in that file.
- If the zip file you specify contains a folder name or file name with multi-byte characters, it can be installed only if it is UTF-8. Otherwise, the installation will not be successful, so extract the zip file manually to another location and install by specifying the "mod.xml" file in it.
- When moving a mod from a previous version or installing a new mod, if the same folder name already exists, "(number)" will be automatically added to the folder name to avoid duplication.
- If the game does not recognize the voice mod after using this tool, it is likely that there is something wrong with the "mod.xml" file, so either fix it yourself or get the latest version of the voice mod.
- The current WoWS version allows ASCII characters and characters that can be encoded in UTF-8 as setting names for voice mods, but requires a font that can display them in-game. The author cannot guarantee that they will continue to be available in the future.
- When using this tool, all related folder and file names can use characters that follow the Windows file system naming conventions. However, if they contain even one of the ASCII characters "%", "!" or "^", this tool may not work properly. In particular, if the location (full path name) where this tool is located contains any of these characters, an error will occur when the tool is launched.
- Even when using this tool for the Steam version of WoWS, make sure to specify the correct folder where "WorldOfWarships.exe" is located for the operation.
Input example for Steam version WoWS: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\World of Warships
